COLLABORATING WITH CUSTOMERSWe know our customers want to ship more, but with less impact. So we are working with them to develop more sustainable options to meet their needs. Creative solutions like UPS My Choice® allow customers to be notified and choose a convenient time and place of delivery from their mobile device or computer. Another solution that puts more control in the hands of consumers, the UPS Access Point™ network, provides a consolidated delivery point – such as a local business – for safe and convenient pick-ups by many customers in the same area. In 2015, we reached more than 26 million My Choice members around the world and expanded the Access Point network to 100 cities across the US and to more than 24,000 locations worldwide. Both solutions create a win-win: more flexibility and options for consumers, with fewer miles driven and lower associated emissions.UPS’S COMMITMENTOur sustainability work dates to the 1930s when we began testing electric vehicles. In the decades since, we have continued to build on that momentum. With more than 100,000 drivers logging about 3 billion miles each year, sustainability requires a long-term commitment starting at the top and reaching the 444,000 UPSers working every day to improve our sustainable operations. This same commitment enabled us to achieve our goal of driving 1 billion miles in our Rolling Laboratory of alternative fuel and advanced technology vehicles a year ahead of our 2017 target. We are now driving more than 1 million miles in the Rolling Laboratory every business day. By the end of 2016, UPS will have invested more than US$750 million in this fleet and specialized fueling infrastructure since 2009. Our ongoing efforts are also demonstrated by our partnerships with technology developers in the private sector, governments and academia worldwide. In the US, UPS participates in the Department of Energy’s Clean Cities Program and was one of the initial 13 companies to participate in the Obama Administration’s American Business Act on Climate Pledge, committing to reduce greenhouse gas intensity 20 per cent by 2020. This investment helps provide the knowledge necessary to transform commercial transportation and logistics, spur growth in the clean fuels market and power critical engineering advances. As cities grow more crowded every day, UPS remains committed to addressing the development challenges that lie ahead. By stimulating demand for alternative fuels and technologies, creating more sustainable solutions for our customers, and adapting UPS trucks and routes, we will continue to meet the ever-evolving demands of urban logistics.
