For eight years, the Greater London Area has supported Dulwich Picture Gallery in offering portfolio development opportunities to gifted young people between the ages of 15 and 18. The choice of the 15 participants for the 2015 NADFAS Life Drawing Masterclass was based on their existing artwork, in addition to a written application.The strength of the course is the result of a successful partnership between the Gallery and NADFAS; having an experienced and talented DEVELOPING ART SKILLSGreater London Area support allows the Dulwich Picture Gallery to offer young people places in an exciting art masterclass that helps to build their portfolios15 students gained extra skills during a 2-day course in life drawingtutor; excellent studio facilities; high quality equipment; the inspiring Gallery collection; and the opportunity to work from a female life model who took a genuine interest in the work the young people were doing.Regardless of their skill level at the outset, the students benefi tted from working alongside each other, experimenting with techniques and media, and showcasing their work at an informal private view.“The work achieved by the students was of remarkable quality and the teacher, the students, their parents and the team at Dulwich Picture Gallery were all delighted with the results,” says Gillian Eeley, GLA Young Arts Coordinator.Students found that they were inspired to produce work beyond their expectations, especially with regard to their drawing skills.
