096 SMART CITIESINTEGRATING SMART SOLUTIONS WITH SINGLE IDENTIFICATION TECHNOLOGYGERT BOTHA, CEO, HIVE TECHNOLOGYAbove: Gert BothaThe developments in digital technology with the advent of the Internet of Things, Smart Machines, Artificial Intelligence, Pervasive Computing, controlled by a new breed of algorithms, will make technology more and more pervasive. These developments will beyond doubt have dramatic and far-reaching implications for individuals, businesses, governmental leaders, and society as a whole – which is largely ignorant and ill prepared for the expected changes. It should come as no surprise that science fiction and futurist writers often proved prescient of future technologies. In the science fiction examples these developing technologies were underpinned by automated identification where objects react to people or other objects. Identity is sensed and rule-based, actions are automatically triggered. Biometrics are used as authentication of the already identified person. These technologies in science fiction examples were often used to exert excessive control but implemented with individual control and privacy in mind the technology can simplify the world we live in dramatically, providing the much needed foundation for digitisation.Think about the number of current, often unsecure, identification devices that people use to interact with their world: physical keys, remote controls, access cards and a number of bank, loyalty and identification cards. With phones and computers, we interact and identify ourselves to objects through applications. Wearable devices just add another layer of technology to deal with. All these diverse identification and interaction methods just complicate our world and instead of providing a seamless integrated experience further divide interactions into silos.Smart City development is a good example of this technology development where connected “Things” to the internet not only collect additional data that will drive automated decisions but also control certain technology actions. All the above mentioned future technologies are already present in smart city developments in some form or another. The biggest gap and barrier to further automate and optimise these city developments are the seamless integration of people and objects. This can only be achieved through a Single Identification Technology and method with the ability to securely identify and authenticate people and objects digitally as well as physically through a wireless ambient identity, as they interact and move through the city.Potential security and privacy issues immediately come to mind. The first question that comes to mind is what if someone copies a single Identification?. The answer is simple: it is not possible as every single identification device has a totally unique electronic ID that changes all the time and that is impacted using environmental factors that cannot be predicted. The second concern is that if all people or objects have a wireless/ambient identity this surely allows whoever has access to the data to track their movements and actions. True, but this latest single identification technology with patents pending by Hive Technology is a totally configurable identification technology that overcomes this challenge. Each ID can be configured to transmit the data to a IPv4 or 6 address stored on the single identification regardless of which reader the data is read by or where. The single identification has a number of pages of data that can be made available under different rule based conditions to different IP addresses. Page
