006 THE NEW ECONOMYOPENING REMARKSUnder the watchful care of the UNFCCC Executive Secretary Christiana Figueres and her administration, COP21 – concluding with the Paris Agreement – was a resounding success. Now the real labour begins; new investment is a must if we are to achieve the 2030 targets, and developing countries need the support in order to turn the tide of acute and frequent climate impacts. The Paris Agreement has restored my faith in humanity – our beliefs do not have to divide us, they have the power to unite us. So far, 177 countries have signed the Agreement and the number is growing. It does not get more united than that.Ms Figueres steps down as the UNFCCC Executive Secretary in July 2016 and her participation in this edition of CLIMATE CHANGE The New Economy (CCTNE) will be her last in that capacity. We wish her well with her future endeavours and say wholeheartedly that she will be sorely missed. Patricia Espinosa (Mexico), who will take over as the Executive Secretary, will do her very best to fill the shoes of such a great predecessor and no doubt a worthy candidate for the Nobel Peace Prize. The Summation of this edition is written by Christiana Figueres and, therefore, I will close these remarks with a quote from her: ‘The New Economy will be Led by New Thinking’.Gary Nichols-RothEditor-in-Chief Editor-in-Chief Gary Nichols-RothExecutive Editor Elizabeth RenskiAssociate Editor Georgina BriskGlobal Business Development Director James D.
